Search and the generated answer.

I am working on a state-of-the-field article about search and generative AI. It asks how questions of editorial judgement, commercial power and representation change when a system presents a generated answer.

About

Research across search, culture and play.

I’m Associate Professor in Contemporary Literature and the Digital at the University of Birmingham. My research examines search engines and the ways digital systems organise knowledge.

I teach and research games and interactivity, with a special interest in solo TTRPGs, queer and trans* gaming, and non-traditional forms.
